The ancient European roots of Easter
Easter isn't Christian. It's European.
Before the Church, our ancestors celebrated Eostre — the Germanic goddess of spring, dawn, and fertility. Her symbols: the hare, the egg. Her month: Eostur-monath. Her memory: etched in English place names like Eastry and Eastrington.
In 1958, archaeologists found 150+ votive inscriptions to her in Germany — dated 2nd century AD. She was real. Our ancestors worshipped her for centuries.
The Church didn't erase our traditions. They absorbed them. Layered resurrection on top of rebirth. Kept the symbols, changed the story.
This weekend, remember: the hare, the egg, the dawn — they're ours. European heritage, older than Christianity, still alive.
